Through the years we have been told that being a certain size is the only ‘acceptable’ body type.

 

Right from our Bollywood movies to social media, everyone has dictated the ideal norms of a body type. All of which has made us criticize our own body. You might deny it but knowingly or unknowingly you are breeding self-hate just to fit in. 

 

You need to understand that you are much more than just your body. Being body positive will help you look at your body like never before. It will make you fall in love with yourself all over again.  It’s definitely easier said than done and we totally get it. But thanks to the new wave of bright and uplifting minds, the world is changing and so should you.

To help you out, we have lined up five simple ways in which you can achieve body positivity over time - 

 

1. Make positive affirmations:

 

 

The thing about humans is that we always look at the negatives in our life. If you are constantly criticizing your body and counting your weight as a negative aspect in your life then you need to stop! You need to start telling yourself that you are good enough. The best way to become body positive is to train your mind in thinking positive thoughts. Writing positive things about yourself in a diary is the best way to start this journey. Thank your body for what it does and be grateful about it.

 

2. Stop comparing yourself with others:

 

 

Remember, everyone is born with a different body type. You need to realize that one size fits all is actually not true at all. What might be a healthy body type for others might not be for you. So, stop comparing yourself with others. Rather focus on being the fittest version of your own self. Your journey towards body positivity will cut down in half once you stop comparing yourself with others and start appreciating your body as well.

 

3. Be active:

 

 

Many people mismatch the term body positivity with not being fit. Well, being body positive is all about being comfortable in your own skin while leading an active lifestyle. Fitness and being active are two different things. Rather than chasing the ideal body type, you need to work on yourself for a healthy lifestyle. Don’t run behind numbers, focus on working towards being fitter each day. You don’t need to do it just because society says so. You should do it for a better and a healthy life. 

 

4. Surround yourself with positive energies:

 

 

While your journey towards being body positive can be very difficult, having the right people around would do wonders. You might not realize it but sadly your body confidence drops due to certain comments from your close ones. Again, this generation has become very sensitive. That’s why having a positive group of family or friends is very important. With uplifting and positive people around, you grow as a person and become happy.

 

5. Find the right inspiration:

 

 

Today, we have a storm of influencers promoting body positivity. Looking after someone who is of your body type and comfortable in their own skin, will help you gain confidence within yourself.  There is definitely some level of psychology involved. You see yourself in the other person and when that person is so confident, it ultimately makes you confident. So, find your inspiration and take cues from them. 

 

6. Wear whatever you wish for!

 

 

Styling and being fashion-forward is the highlight of the hour. But being uncomfortable is definitely not a deal you would want to sign up for. So, make sure that you wear clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident at the same time. If you wish to wear a sleeveless top or a short skirt or full sleeves top, go ahead and wear it by all means. The key is to not worry about your curves. They are meant to be flaunted! 

 

Remember that body positivity isn’t a reel trend that will wave off. It is here to stay! The world is your canvas, paint it as you like. Stop worrying about what others think about your body. Start loving and appreciating it. Once you do that, we assure you that your body will thank you with a different glow. Cheers to all body shapes, sizes and colours!
